Panopticon: A Reflective Paper on Prisons in Scotland

Panopticon is a paper that started life as a play. It was developed in conversation with the prisoners of HMP Inverness and the Scottish Prison Service. Although the play would not be written, this paper - part theory and part creative writing - aims to reflect on the institution of prison in 21st century Scotland and ask of us to give attention to the precarious state that many of these institutions are in. Influenced by the struggle of trying to create art from such a complex social space, Panopticon is an uncertain reflection on the ongoing forces that dictate law and order in our country, and the responsibility of creators when engaging with that space.

Panopticon was on public exhibition at the Moray College of Art as part of the UHI-SPS-HES Artist Residency Program
